Volcán Poás
We had to be up and out the door by 7:15am on Sunday morning to catch a taxi to the bus station. Hard task on a Sunday when all you want to do is sleep in. But we got up and headed out on our day trip to see the volcano...
FYI this volcano erupted just 5 days before our trip.
On the way to the volcano we met three girls. We started talking to them and found out that one of them was a junior in high school doing an exchange program...so young! One of the others was from New York and she took a semester off of college to volunteer in Costa Rica - she was 18...again so young! And the third girl we met was from Sweden (second person from Sweden we have met). She is in Costa Rica as an Au Pair. We ended up walking around with these girls and going on the extra 60 minute hike. The hike was so pretty! Green moss everywhere you looked. We saw so many squirrels on this hike, as well. A few of the squirrels posed for pictures and didn't run away when you got closer. The 60 minute hike took us about 40 minutes to complete ... we thought we were going to another view point or something - as it turned out it took us back to the same place we started in. But that is ok. We got to see more on that hike than we would have just staying at the
main look out.
The only bus back to Alajuela/San Jose was at 2:30pm so we had to back at the pick-up location by 2pm to make sure we got a seat on the way back. (We sat on the floor of the bus the way there and we did not want that again...) So we made our way to the Gift Shop and looked around a little bit. I got my first souvenir there and I got one of my sisters a little something as well. Finally, starting to get my amazing family things from Costa Rica! I got to try a coffee liquor - so good, but I'm cheap and didn't buy my own bottle. Ha! After the Gift Shop we went to the bathroom and hung out outside in the sun.
(BTW - it was a little chilly up there so the sun felt great!) It was a pretty smooth (suave) sailing day!
