Nicole and I had our first beers here in Costa Rica at a bar in Quepos. The beers here come with the caps off and a napkin wrapped over the top of the bottle, and it almost looked decorative. Our reactions to this was, "OMG this is so cute."
(Side note: We later found out that they do this for a reason. The reason is because they recycle bottles here...meaning they don't always clean them well enough! One of our friends - a few days later - showed us why you need to use that napkin to clean the top of the bottle off. Those tops can be pretty gross.) But we didn't die and now we know to ALWAYS clean the tops of our bottles! It was a great night out. We were really tired later so we ended up crashing as soon as we got back to our room.
On Saturday, we woke up and met up with our friends again. They just happen to be tour guides and had the day off so we all went to the National Park. A lot of my amazing pictures are thanks to those guys! Gracias, amigos! Nicole and I got to see sloths, spiders, crabs, birds, and most importantly monkeys! (My pictures are all posted in the Photos tab up top!) We got to hang out at the beach for hours and chill with some pretty awesome locals (Ticos) and their roommate from California. After being the sun for a few hours we were all starting to get pretty hungry so the guys told us they knew a good place and we all headed that way. This place was not only cheap it also had a great view! The food was amazing (Nicole and I love how Ticos say 'amazing' it sounds like 'amaa-sing') and the company was great. We discovered a love for Casados!! Mm-mm-good! All that food, plus fresh made-in-front-of-us pineapple juice was only $5. While we were sitting there eating one of our Tico friends spotted a Toucan (or as the Ticos say 'Too-Kin'). He ran to set up his telescope and focused in on it so we could all get a better look. The picture up top is one of many I got from the telescope! Toucans are such cool birds. Once we finished eating Nicole and I talked about how much we loved the sunsets in Manuel Antonio and the guys said we haven't really seen it until we see it from a spot they know about. So we trekked off to this new location in Quepos (about 5min away). You can see my photos from this location in the Photos tab as well! Era muy bonito! That night was a little more peaceful and relaxing.
Sunday, Nicole and I went back to the beach early to try and get some color and to swim in the ocean once more. We put on sunscreen but it didn't do much for us...we ended up looking like lobsters! I think we need a 50SPF. Around 2pm we headed back to shower and eat so we could catch our 5pm bus ride back to San Jose.
Check out my video I took of the Toucan! It's short and sweet but pretty cool.
